Labradorite is a member of the Feldspar family, formed with hornblende in basalt of volcanic rocks. It gets its name from the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, the first location where labradorite was discovered. It is treasured for its remarkable play of color, known as labradorescence. This is caused by internal fractures that reflect light back and forth, dispersing it into different colors.
